May 7th, Pitchers duel

Oakland Athletics vs. Cleveland Indians

Cleveland 1      Athletics 0

WP: McAllister (3-3)
LP: Milone (3-4)

The Indians and Athletics bats were silent in this game, as an unearned run is what became the difference in a great pitching match up between these two clubs.  Tommy Milone was the tough luck loser who pitched a gem, but whose offense couldn't pick him up.

The Indians got their run when a hard hit ball by Carolos Santana deflected off the glove of Athletics first baseman Moss, and then a throwing error by Athletics second baseman Sogard.  This allowed Santana to move up to second, and then later scored on a Yan Gomes sac fly that was luckily deep enough for Santana to make it home.
Yan Gomes and Chris Perez celebrate after
the Tribe victory.
After that, there was no offense.  The run was scored in the fifth inning, and so far this year, the Tribe has outscored all of its opponent's in the fifth inning by a margin of 16-2.  Lucky five I suppose!  Gomes also through out what was the tying run trying to steal second in Yoenis Cespedes, and then Chris Perez slammed the door, allowing Cleveland to win eight of its last nine and picking up his fourth save of the year.

Zach McAllister was simply brillitant.  If you don't remember, McAllister came over in a trade from the Yankees as a "player to be named later" in the trade for Austin Kearns.  What a trade so far, as McAllister has provided great consistency so far this year.  He pitched seven and two thirds shutout innings, struck out 4, walked one and scattered 5 five hits.

On a day where offense was no where to be found, the Indians found a way to walk away with a victory, and it certainly is nice to be on the winning side of a 1-0 game.
